As everyone prepares for the Hate Week, everyone finishes as fast as they can. Many people finish what they have to do without any care in what they are doing. Hate Week is suppose to increase the hate toward the enemies of the party as well they made a new Hate Song. It sounded savage, barking rhythm resembling the beating of the war drum. Posters were being placed up and pamphlets being handed out. Hate Week is something everyone has to do, want or not. Winston just does what he is told and plans to work with the BrotherHood after he has finished preparing his part of the Hate Week. This week is where th Brotherhood will start their plans to overtake Big Brother and start a new future. GoldStein and his followers are ready to go with the idea, and make it happen. Everyone has their own part to do, especially O'Brien, because he is able to turn off his telescreen at his home. His home will be the perfect meeting place during the Hate Week. This would be their only shot at overcoming Big Brother. They have to have no mistakes or it will be over for them. Freedom is what everyone wants, they will strive to get that. Intense as it is, if anyone was found violating the law, the Thought Police will be the first to know.
The mood and tone of the setting in this part of the novel, is quite overwelming with "hate" strongly in the air. New posters were made, new pamphlets have been handed out, and even a new song has been created for the even. The song has very simular resemblence to the heart pounding beat of the war drum. As widely advertised as Hate Week is, it doesn't mean that eveyone "wants" to be involved. But with the way the society is controlled, "want" doesnt matter, each person has their own responsabilities to prepare for the Hate Week. A strong sence of freedom is also in the air. We are beginning to witness the beginning of what could be the end of BigBrother. We witness Winston planning to work with the BrotherHood, and we find that O'Brien has the perfect meeting place for everybody during the stressful Hate Week, and we can now see a plan comming together to have BigBrother ripped from authority, and have the BrotherHood start a new way of life, free from control. Fear is always around in the novel, but even more so now as the BrotherHood plans to take power. They know that if their plans are found out, then every last one of them is as good as dead. The fear of the Thought Police is constantly seen, because if their plans are found out, the Thought Police will be the first to know. The BrotherHood wants their freedom, but its more of a matter of how much they are willing to risk for it.
The mood during hate week is an angry one since the point of hate week is to make the people hate their enemies more, hate week is not optional as everyone has to participate and everyone has assignments they have to do. Most of the people do not care about hate week and just do what they are supposed to do to complete their task. O'Brien is ablo to turn off the telescreen at his house so they are going to use his home as a meeting place so the brotherhood can plan a way to overtake Big Brother and get freedon for the people.
Everyone prepares for Hate Week, making banners and posters to put up around shops and the street with a new hate song, resembling what sounds like drums no lyrics or anything enjoyable. This week is not optional, everyone must participate. During this week the brotherhood begin there plans to over throw Big Brother and begin a new future. I believe the mood is terrified and uneasy, to have deal with bombs dropping this way and that or looking at the horrific posters of the proles with guns all over the streets. Everyone just wants peace and freedom, but with the thought police in action there’s no say when freedom will rain.
The mood and tone of the Hate Week preparation was frantic and the tone, increasingly enthusiastic. The mood changes as a result of the emotions Hate Week is supposed to create such as fear, anger, and happiness. The fear the people felt was a result of the "atrocity" pamphlets which Big Brother used to spew fake propaganda against the enemies of Oceania. The happy mood created from Hate Week stems from the parades and songs sang for hate week. People were supposed to feel good about the things they were supposed to hate because it would encourage them to hate whatever Big Brother wanted. The most infectious mood however, was anger. Anger and hate towards the opposition was the focal point of Hate Week and its purpose was to control the masses loyalties by bringing out the savagery in them and bringing them to the point of killing anyone seen as the opposition without disobedience.
